The third parents v girls game took place on the field last Thursday. The rain had been pouring down all day but the pitch was fine and the rain didn't dampen down enthusiasm.
The girls team was Emma, Ellie, Lily, Lucie, Annaliese, and Courteny. The parents team was altogether a more polished and classic (i.e. old) side. Scouts turned out to watch, oh sorry it was the 3rd Waverton Brownies. They soon ran back inside the village hall.
Straight from the kick off Emmas dad was up for it, a Harrison v Harrison battle this was going to be and it appeared that there may have been some money on it. Emma's call of "me dad's got a dodgy knee, get him" rang out. Annaliese replied "Which one?" to which Emma made it clear "Left!". Morley v Morley, Parkinson v Parkinson, Riste v Riste, there were little family battles going on all over the field.
The parents went into a instant lead and then it was trebled. Game over? No the girls fought back with hotshot Courteny blasting past her mum in the parents goal. It remained pretty much even for most of the game. Ellie blasted the ball into the road and then the hedge. Robin completely took out his daughter, a foul of such magnitude that had it been committed in the Wallasey League, there would have been a summons to appear in front of the League Management Committee.
The rain continued but so did the game. End to end to the end. The dark came and the game had to finish. It wasn't clear who won, but the girls claimed the victory. Football, family and the club were the real winners.
See everyone on Wednesday at the Presentation night. Girls meet 7:30 at the Ring of Bells for the meal. Cost to be met by the girls - what you eat and drink you pay for. The presentation will be around 8:45, so any parents coming down for that should arrive around 8:30. If any parents want to stay and eat, let Mike know and we'll see if we can get a parents table.
