First game of 2014 ends in a win!

AFC Waverton 4 - Frodsham 2

Our first game for 2 months resulted in a victory in a friendly against Frodsham on the astro at Christleton.

The sides were generally pretty even with both teams having early chances. It was the home side however who broke the deadlock when Kiera latched on to a long ball from defence and slotted the ball home.

Frodsham fought back and just before half time got the equaliser when a great shot from a narrow angle was thrashed into the top of the net, following the ball not being properly cleared by the Waverton defence.

The visitors then got on top with another great shot which dropped out of the sky and beyond Lucie's grasp.

With time ticking away and a Frodsham victory on the cards, Kiera challenged a loose ball which wasn't properly held by the 'keeper,  and put the ball into the net.

Jemima, making her debut, then put the home side ahead with a great shot low into the corner and hurt herself in the process.

Kiera completed her hatrick as the game neared its end.

All in all, a very good game against a team who has beaten us narrowly twice this season.

Great to see Anna back after she finished the last game in an ambulance, and well done to both Jemima for scoring in her first game and to Kiera for her hatrick. Well done to all the girls for a great performance and once which justifies the hard work done on the training pitch over the winter.
